Susan had done everything she could think of that might possibly calm her down. She'd taken a hot bath. There was tea, freshly brewed on the side table. She'd even let her hair down. But the events of the following week still weighed rather heavily on her mind. Connor had contacted her over the weekend to let her know that he'd be out of town this week. There hadn't been enough time to drill him on what exactly had happened back there in that old demon's house. She wasn't even sure if that was the best course of action. She thought back to sixteen years old. Her parents dead, the appearance of a skeletal rat and talking raven, and oh hey, your grandfather's the Grim Reaper. No, she hadn't been in the mood to answer the questions of any nosy adults either.

Honestly. The more time Susan spent in Milieux, the more its children worried her.

Today, the calendar that hung on Susan's wall had informed her, was Father's Day.

This was not exactly a holiday that was celebrated on the Discworld but the thought of such a thing still gave her pause.

It wasn't as if she could even celebrate in a traditional way. Her own father and mother had died ten years ago in a carriage accident when she was sixteen. But then again nothing about Susan was very strictly traditional. So it was that she'd stepped out of time for a couple hours this morning and paid a visit to her parent's graves in Sto Lat.

There was nothing of them left here, really. She knew that. Nothing but the memorial but if anyone had good reason to respect the memory, after all, it was her.

If you're emo and you know it, cut your posts... )

[ooc: Establishy. Details NFB (ie: ZOMG. GRANDPA IZ TEH GRIM REAPER.) but saying that Susan is an early riser, observing Father's Day by visiting her parent's grave, or somesuch is fine.]

Download Instructions: Since Megaupload only lets you upload 250mb at a time, I had to split the files. Download each part separately to the same folder. Then use HJSplit to join them.

[info]prodigalpawn asked me to upload this and since Megaupload stores things for a month, I figured I'd put it up for grabs here too. I don't know what to say to get you to watch it. Imagine me grabbing you by the collar and telling you that you should watch this movie, perhaps? Yes. V. highly recommended by yours truly. And I'd love it if you'd drop me a line and tell me what you thought, if you download.

Susan was not happy.

There was an anthropomorphic personification in her teacup.

It was skeletal, rodent, and looking up at her in what it probably hoped was an endearing manner.

It failed to be endearing in these circumstances.

She'd come to Milieux to get away from all of that. Not to have the Death of Rats at her heels like a terrier. A furless very rodent-like terrier... okay, so the simile was lacking. So was her patience.

"Is there a reason you're bathing in my Earl Grey?" she asked reproachfully.

SQUEAK.

"Coincidence. I see. And what sort of coincidence requires your presence in my teacup?"

The Death of Rats sniggered,

SNH SNH SNH.

Susan sighed and got up to pour herself another cup, sincerely hoping that he'd be gone by the time she turned around again.

[OOC: Establishy but open to visitors if you can think of an excuse to be in Susan's apartment]

So, I know at least a couple of you are familiar with the Discworld fandom, but just in case you haven't read any of Terry Pratchett's wonderful books, here be an info-y type post about Susan.

Long story short, she's Deaths granddaughter and as such, she's inherited certain special abilities. As Pratchett puts it, "she can walk through walls, live outside of time, and be a little bit immortal." Her defining character trait is her sensible nature. Obviously she was somewhat put out to find it challenged by news of exactly who her granddad is. She's worked as a governess and a school teacher. Her child reaering methods are rather unique to say the least. Once she'd accepted that bogeymen and monsters under the bed existed, it was little difficulty to run them out with a fireplace poker. I could go on and on but it's probably better to link you to a succinct summary of her background. Wikiland is quite good for that.

If you'd like the flashy multimedia version of a rundown, here is a very good short from Skyone's adaptation of The Hogfather devoted to her character. It is hosted by Death and full of win. Pterry also makes an appearance. Have a look. Please do.

The books she appears in are Soul Music, Hogfather, and Thief of Time if you're curious enough to look them up. Highly recommended by yours truly obviously. :)

FYI (for the Pratchettphiles), Susan here is post Thief of Time.
